Hrólfr Gautreksson

Hrólfr Gautreksson was a legendary Viking caudillo, king of the gautas, who appears in Hrólfs saga Gautrekssonar and probably also in the poem Hyndluljóð.

Hrólfs saga Gautrekssonar relates that he was the son of King Gautrek and on the death of his father his brother Ketill inherited the throne and encouraged Hrólfr to woo the daughter of King Eirík, who was a proud and aggressive warrior Skjaldmö named Þornbjörg. < / p>

There is an isolated stanza in the poem Hyndluljóð which refers to the figure of Hrólfr el Viejo. The names "Þorir Shield of Iron" and "Grímr" that are shown in their lines probably refer to Þorir and Grímr Þorkelsson accompanying Hrólfr in Hrólfs saga Gautrekssonar.

Hrólfr succeeded his brother on the throne of the gautas but according to the saga, nobody wrote that part of the story.
