Advisory Committee on Antarctic Nomenclature

The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (ACAN or US-ACAN) is an advisory committee of the United States Office for Geographical Names responsible for recommending names for land-based the Antarctic.

The United States does not recognize territorial boundaries within Antarctica, so ACAN will assign names anywhere on the continent, consulting with other nomenclature bodies when it deems appropriate.

ACAN maintains a public naming policy based on application priority, appropriateness, and scope of use.
