The name of intermediate profession is a creation of the new nomenclature of professions and socio-professional categories in France.

Two thirds of the group members actually occupy an intermediate position between executives and executing agents, workers or employees, such as foremen and supervisors. The other professions are intermediate in a more figurative sense: they work in teaching (teacher), health (nurse) and social (social worker).
