From 2011 to 2015, Li Andersson was President of the Youth Organization of the Left Alliance. In the 2015 elections, she is elected to the Finnish parliament in the constituency of southwestern Finland.
In February 2016, Li Andersson announced his candidacy for the position of leader of the Left Alliance. On June 6th, 2016, she receives the majority of the votes and her official appointment takes place on June 11, 2016 at the Oulu Alliance Assembly in Oulu.
