The National Schifflange


The National Schifflange was a Luxembourg football club from Schifflange. The club played 31 seasons in the highest class and won one title and cup. History

The club first played in the second class and finished in a shared first place with US Rumelange and Red Boys Differdange, a play-off for promotion and National lost both matches and missed the promotion . The next season, the club managed to achieve the promotion but was last in the highest grade. The next season ended with a new degradation and the club disappeared for four years from the stage and then returned to the second class and after three seasons it was possible to conquer the title with one point lead at Stade Dudelange. The second season in the first class was again unsuccessful and the club had to play a play-off against Stade Dudelange in order to secure the retention and won by 2-0. After a few seasons midfielder National declined in 1934. With a competition expansion of 8 to 10 clubs, the club could return after one season despite a third place. At four years time, the club graduated and promoted twice. In 1938 the club first reached the cup finale and lost it with 1-0 from Stade Dudelange. Two years later, the club finished fourth in the league. After WWII, the club finished in the better middle ground and in 1950 the club became the first champion champion, behind Stade Dudelange. The next season, it had to lead Jeunesse d'Esch, but in 1952 the club finally managed to triumph and took it into the country's title.

However, this victory was followed by an eighth place and in the following years the club ended in the middle until a new degradation followed in 1957. The National won the title in second and returned. After a difficult season, the club returned to the wind in 1960 with a fifth place in the league and a victory in the 3-0 cup finale, yes, Stade Dudelange. The club did not play European, the Europacup II was only in its first edition in 1960/61 and only 10 clubs participated, from the larger countries. In 1965 the club declined again and had to wait six years for a return to the highest level this time. After three seasons, the club declined forever from the highest class. In 1974/75, the club only scored two points and was signed last and disappeared to the third grade. In the 80's the club had already gone down to fifth grade and could play in third in 1987.
