Dom Georges Wartel is a canon of the abbey of Mont Saint-Eloi (Pas-de-Calais, France) having written in 1786 the chronicles of the abbey. We know very little about him, except that he is a native of Lille and that he entered the service of the abbey on May 24, 1748 under the name of Brother Géry Wartel.

In 1935, R. Rodière, vicar general of the bishopric of Arras, and also secretary of the Departmental Commission of Historical Monuments of the Pas-de-Calais, publishes the text of Dom Wartel in the Bulletin of the Commission Department of Historical Monuments of the Pas-de-Calais (2 series, volume VI, 1935) under the title Chronicle of the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Eloy.

The text of the chronicles written by Dom Wartel provides important historical insight into the abbey itself, its activities and the events that have occurred both in the abbey and in the region since the Merovingian period until the pre-revolutionary period.
