Filotas (musician)

Filotas (Greek Φιλωτας) was a dithyrambic poet and musician from Ancient Greece who lived between the fifth century BC. C. and IV a. C ..

He was a disciple of Kyodox's Philotoxen and had possessions on the island of Samos.

Of the few news that he has of him is that he won a victory over his contemporary Timothy of Miletus and was therefore the object of the sharp and ingenious criticism of his friend Straton. He was also named defender of Timon of Athens, who had a reputation for misanthropy, before the accusations of Straton that he had hated all men. Sources
