Red architecture

Example of red architecture in Madriguera, Segovia.

The red architecture is a type of popular architecture that is applied to the typical constructions of the villages of the north slope of the mountain range of Ayllón, to the south of the province of Segovia (Spain). Reddish materials such as ferruginous stone and clay are used for its construction. The color contrasts sometimes with the gray of the slate and the white of the quartz, abundant materials also in the area.

The main exponents of the red villages are Madriguera and Villacorta. In these, the restorations of the buildings and the new constructions have continued to use to a greater or smaller extent the traditional materials.
