Adams Island is part of the Auckland Islands archipelago. The southern end of Auckland Island widens to about 26 kilometers, here a narrow channel known as Carnley Harbor or others as Adams Strait, separate the main island of Adams Island which has a triangular shape, with an approximate area of 100 km². It is very mountainous, reaching an altitude of 660 m with Mount Dick. The channel is the remains of an ancient crater of an extinct volcano, the southern part of Auckland Island and Adams Island forming a crater.
