A drift-chain is a tool used to chase or replace a bicycle chain rivet. The term comes from "drifting," to "take off a rivet."

This tool is used to remove, install or repair certain types of bike chain. There is no need to "break" certain types of string, which include a quick link by which one can "open" the chain without tools. However, whatever the chain, the drift-chain is necessary to lengthen or shorten a bike chain. Compositionedit code Chain tool

The chain is inserted perpendicular to the tool. There are two positions:

For each position, the chain is held in place by two protuberances between which will slip a roller of the chain (the roller is the cylindrical part connecting the links of a chain, in which is slid the rivet). Thus, the tip of the threaded rod will be just in front of the end of the rivet. Since the tip is slightly thinner than a rivet, rotating the tool crank will push the rivet through the roller axis.
