Esperaindeo

Esperaindeo († c. 853) was a Mozarabic religious from Al-Ándalus, maestro de San Eulogio and Álvaro de Córdoba.

Little is known about his life. He was abbot of the Monastery of Santa Clara, near Cordova, during the Muslim dominion. In addition to being a writer, he was one of the conservatives of the Christian-Christian civilization in Muslim land. His Apologetic against Muhammad, of which only a few fragments are known, is a document of inestimable value. He composed it to condemn the loss of those who abandoned the Catholic faith and converted to Islam, to erase errors and to strengthen the weak. Esperaindeo is mainly due to the exaltation of religious sentiment among Mozarabic Christians and therefore many were persecuted and ended up being new martyrs. Among his disciples are San Eulogio (800- † 859), Álvaro de Córdoba († 861?) And Samson of Cordoba († 890).
