Rubén González (pianist)


Rubén González (May 26, 1919 - December 8, 2003) was a Cuban pianist. He learned to play piano at Cienfuegos music high school. Later he started studying medicine, but he stopped this because of financial problems. In 1943 he released his first recording, which soon made him known in Cuba and the rest of Latin America. Since the sixties he played 25 years in Havana in Enrique Jorrin's band.

Rubén González retired in the late 1980s, but in 1996 he introduced a new solo album Introducing ... Rubén González. In 1997 he appeared on an album from the American producer & amp; Guitarist Ry Cooder, Buena Vista Social Club. The director Wim Wenders made a biographical film about Rubén González and his colleagues under the same name, making him known in the rest of the world.

Rubén González last hit Mexico and Cuba in 2002. His health became worse then: he suffered from osteoarthritis and had problems with his lungs and kidneys. He died on December 8, 2003 after a long sick bed. Externe link
