Vasa Order

Insignias of the Royal Order of Vasa.

The Royal Order of Vasa is a knightly order instituted by Gustav III of Sweden on May 26, 1772, the day of his coronation.

Its purpose was to reward civil services to artists. This order is composed of three classes: six large crosses, eight commanders and fifty knights, not counting foreigners.

The currency is a gold medallion enameled white and bordered with a band of gules; in the center a sheaf of corn in the wild, tied with a gold ribbon. The tape is green. Large crosses carry a plaque.
