Previously to 1266, the benimerines besieged Marrakech. In the confusion of that time Abu Dabus took advantage to overthrow Abu Hafs Umar al-Murtada, his cousin, who boasted the throne. Although it was declared caliph, its real power barely arrived to cross the walls of the capital. The benimerines, reorganized, re-sieved the city between 1268 and 1269. The assassination of the caliph gave rise to the new Benimerín State. Bibliography
