Aridity

In mathematical analysis, the arithmetic of a mathematical operator or function is the number of arguments necessary for that operator or function to be calculated.

For example, the addition operator "+" is a binary operator (of arity 2), because it needs two arguments to be able to make a sum. In contrast, the absolute value function «| | »Is a unary operator (of arity 1), because it only needs one argument.

The term is also used in mathematical logic to refer relations, for example n-aria relationship. Other examples Notes
