The Astrajánidas, Ashtarjánidas, Djánidas or Toqaytimúridas were a gengisida turcomongola dynasty, originating of Astrakhan, that reigned in Bujará between 1599 and 1785. History

The Astrakhanids descend from Genghis Khan through the thirteenth son of Jöchi, the firstborn of that, Toqay Timur.

In 1594 the Russian Empire was annexed Astrakhan. Yar Muhammad, a prince of the Chinggisid dynasty of Astrakhan, took refuge with his son Djan in Bukhara, under the protection of the Shaybanan khan Iskandar. This one gave in marriage to his daughter to kan. With the death of the last male descendant of the Sahybánida lineage, 'Abd al-Mu'min, in 1599, Bukhara's throne passed to the hands of Baqi Muhammad, the son of Djan and the heiress of the Shaybánidas.

He also maintained control over Fergana until about 1700, when an independent kanato was founded in Kokand, and on Balj, which was a feud of Astrajánidas heirs until the conquest of the city by Nadir-shah, king of Persia, in July of 1740. On September 22, 1740 Nadir-shah, whose artillery gave him great advantage over the Uzbeks, appeared with his troops in front of Bukhara. The khan astrajánida Abu'l Faiz was forced to accept the Persian sovereignty and to recognize the Amu Daria like southern limit of kanato.

At the beginning of the sixteenth century, several Mongol clans had clashed with Muhammad Shaybani in his attempt to regain control of Central Asia for a Chinggisid dynasty. Among those stood out the Mangit clan (or Nogai). This clan acquired an increasing influence in Bujará astrajánida, and by the second half of Century XVIII its leaders occupied the position of mayordomos of palace. During the reign of the last astrajánida, Abu'l Ghazi, the mangit chief Ma'sun Shah Murad who had married a daughter of the kan, became in fact sovereign, then ascended to the throne in 1785. The mangit would have to reign in It will spark until the advent of Soviet power in 1920, although as a Russian protectorate since 1866. Bibliography
