Backa

Bačka (lit. Bachka, in Serbian: Бачка or Bačka, in Hungarian: Bácska, in Croatian: Bačka, in Slovak: Báčka, in Ruteno: Бачка, Bunjevac: Bačka) is a region of the Pannonian plain located between Danube and Tisza rivers. It is divided between Serbia and Hungary, with small pockets of uninhabited land on the left bank of the Danube, which belong to Croatia, but has been under Serbian rule since 1991.

Most of this region is now part of the autonomous Vojvodina province of Serbia. Novi Sad, the capital of Vojvodina, is located on the border between Bačka and Sirmia. To the north, a smaller part of Bačka is now in the county of Bács-Kiskun in Hungary.
