Sakpata, also known as Shakpana or Sagbata is the god or orisha of smallpox, son of Yemaja, in the Yoruba mythology of Africa. It is one of the most important religious for the inhabitants of the Republic of Benin.
According to another source, it is the vodun ('deity') of the earth in the religions of the Fon and Ewe peoples of West Africa. It would also be known as Azonwănnɔ. Its cult is of great importance, and is considered the equivalent of the Orishá Soponá of the Yoruba, for whom it is better known as Babaluayé.
