The Treaty of Chinon was signed in Chinon on 18 September 1214 between the King of England John the Earth and the King of France Philippe Augusto following the defeat of the coalition on 27 July in Bouvines. During this battle Philip Augustus defeated the powerful coalition (England, Flanders, Germany) and won a decisive victory against the hosts of the Germanic Emperor Otton IV of Brunswick allied with the King of England and Ferdinand of Portugal Count of Flanders. This victory led to the collapse of the Plantagenet Angevin Empire.
Juan sin Tierra had to leave French territory and was forced by Pope Innocent III to accept the treaty of Chinon which included the loss of his possessions in the North of the Loire: Berry and Touraine along with the Maine and Anjou that returned to the real domain and that they comprised a third of the territory of the current France. On the other hand, John without Earth, had to pay 60,000 pounds to the king of France, and could only keep Aquitaine.
