Beuggen was a commander of the Alsatian Burgundy of the German Order, belonging to the Austrian Kreits. Beuggen castle lies in the territory of the municipality of Rheinfelden in Baden-Württemberg.

In the early thirteenth century Knight Mangold van Beuggen sold his castle to Knight Ulrich van Lichtenberg. Ulrich was the Imperial Captain of the Stein in Rheinfelden.

In 1246 Ulrich gave the castle to the German Order to set up a commander. In 1268 a new castle was built along the Rhine, which was constantly expanded. The commander succeeded in forming a small territory with the villages Karsau and Riedmatt.

From 1245 to 1444, Beuggen was the seat of the country's commander. Then this seat was moved to Altshausen.

Article 19 of the Rhine Branch Act of 12 July 1806 granted the Commander to the Grand Duchy of Baden. Media files
