Incident Joseph Snoeck

Joseph Snoeck (St. Pieters-Voeren, November 17, 1931 - Hermalle-sous-Argenteau, June 25, 2009) was a Belgian trout grower who came to the news in March 1980 due to an incident during one of the Voivodeship walks of a number Flemish organizations including the Language Action Committee and the Flemish Military Order in the Voer region.

On March 8th, he had hung a flag of the Action Fouronnaise with the text "Rétour à Liège" ("Return to Liège") from the window of his house. The Flemish protesters tried to get the flag. Snoeck took his carabin and started shooting. There were two wounded in the hikers, and in the battle that broke out afterwards, his assets were hit short and small.

Snoeck and some protesters were arrested by the police. The Verviers judicial court ruled that the protesters only destroyed his house after he had begun shooting. In 1984 Snoeck was sentenced to 8 days conditional celestial punishment for abuse. In 1985 he was released by the Liège Court of Appeal. The court ruled that Snoeck had acted on legal self-defense.
