Vjekoslav Šutej


Vjekoslav Šutej (Rijeka, July 31, 1951 - Zagreb, December 2, 2009) was a Croatian orchestra conductor.

Šutej started his career as a conductor in 1979 at the National Theater of Split. From 1990 to 1993 he worked as principal conductor at the Venice La Teatro La Fenice. Meanwhile, he founded the Seville Symphony Orchestra in 1990, which continued to lead until 1996. From 1992 to 1997, Šutej was also the orchestra master of the "Houston Grand Opera" in the United States, and he has been conducting regular publications in the Vienna State Opera since 1994. He was invited by the opera houses of dozens of countries, including Japan, Russia, France and the United Kingdom. Šutej died of leukemia in December 2009.
