Drizzle

The freezing drizzle is a drizzle that, upon contact with the ground or an object, freezes to form a layer of ice on the surface. Your METAR code is FZDZ. Do not confuse it with the icy Rain.

Training

The freezing drizzle is formed in the lower part of the clouds when the vertical movement is weak. It consists of relatively small droplets, light in nature. Generally occurs when forms of drizzle in an airmass in low icy temperatures but warmer than -10 ° C (12 ° F). At such a temperature, the water droplets remain frozen since few nuclei of ice to change them to ice crystals. In winter, arctic conditions can pass in even lower surface temperatures where the air is even cleaner. Effects

When the freezing drizzle builds up on the surfaces creates a layer of ice. The freezing drizzle alone usually does not produce significant ice accumulations due to sunlight. However, even thin layers of ice deposited on roads like black ice can extremely cause dangerous conditions that result in vehicle accidents.
