For homonymous articles, see Descartes (homonymy). Pierre Descartes (born October 19, 1591 in The Hague, today Descartes, Indre-et-Loire - died in April 1660 in Saumur), sieur or lord of La Bretallière, was an advisor to the Parliament of Brittany (in from April 10, 1618).

He is the second child of Joachim Descartes (himself a counselor in the Parliament of Brittany) and Jeanne Brochard (daughter of a lieutenant-general of the king in Poitiers), and the older brother of René Descartes. Married on September 26, 1624 Marguerite Chohan, lady of Kerleau in Elven (niece of a councilor in Parliament), he had six children:

The branch of the Descartes family stemming from him (notably by Joachim III) is called "Descartes de Kerleau" (as opposed to the "Descartes de Chavagne" branch from his half-brother Joachim II).
