In order to make the golf sport accessible to a wide audience, John Scholte decided to set up a driving range in Rotterdam in the early 1980s. The Golf Center Rotterdam was opened by Prince Johan Friso in 1987. At the golf center there is a small arboretum. In November 2007, Scholte sold its shares to the Golf Management Group GMG. Following a bankruptcy, GCR was taken over in 2013. It is now called Golfcenter Seve. Golfpark Rotterdam

Together with GMG, Scholte wanted to put an 18 hole golf course in the recreational park of Spanish Polder in 2010, Golfpark Rotterdam, with a driving range and a few practice holes. The first plans were ambitious, but over the years they have been adjusted. Scholte wants to make a low-threshold golf course. In 2014, the construction of a left lane, designed by the Belgian golf coach architect Bruno Steensels, started. The first nine holes can be played in the summer of 2019.
