Moritz Von Oswald

Moritz von Oswald actuando.

Moritz von Oswald, one of the two members of the Basic Channel and Maurizio music projects, became one of the most influential techno producers of the 90s. In the 80s he was a percussionist at Palais Schaumburg, but towards the end of that decade went into electronic music. He started with the 2MB and 3MB projects with Thomas Fehlmann, and later co-founded the Basic Channel label with Mark Ernestus. The different records of this label are one of the greatest exponents of the musical genre known as Minimal techno. As part of the Berlin / Detroit musical axis, Basic Channel laid the foundations of the minimalist techno sound that other producers like Robert Hood and Jeff Mills also practiced.

Resident in Berlin, Von Oswald was part of the Berlin techno scene that pivoted around the club and record label Tresor and the specialized store Hard Wax (founded by Ernestus). The Basic Channel and Maurizio albums are characterized by prominent 4x4 beats and synth pads with clear influences from Jamaican dub music. Most of its 12 "songs cover the entire face of the album, and after the closure of Basic Channel they continued to publish music through another label, Chain Reaction, which is currently focused on its more Jamaican-style project. Rhythm & Sound.

His music has influenced powerfully on later artists such as Richie Hawtin, Thomas Brinkmann, Robert Henke (aka Monolake) or Wolfgang Voigt
