Lou Bonin

Lou Bonin, also known as Lou Bonin-Tchimoukoff (Avignon, June 16, 1878-Vichy, July 21, 1963), was a French visual artist, stage designer, director and actor.

Lou Bonin was part of the groupe Octobre theater group, founded by Jacques Prévert in 1932.

In the twenties he gave his last name a Russian touch, by adding the name Tchimoukoff. This he did because of his admiration for the Russian Revolution and the Soviets.

From 1928 he worked as a graphic designer for the Belgian company Brepols, for which he designed wallpaper and wrapping paper. Lou Bonin designed this paper through photograms; He laid plants and flowers in geometric shapes of which he made pictures.

In 1932, Jacques Prévert founded a folk-stealing group that called Groupe Octobre, and in the thirties, a kind of agiteprop increased. The name of the group indicates a sympathy for the October Revolution. The group made theater and movies. Jaques Prevert wrote most of the pieces. Lou Bonin did all the work. He worked as an assistant editor, as a stage designer, costume designer and also as an actor.

Lou Bonin's graphic works have been rediscovered by printers and publishers and are now sold again, both the originals and the reproductions, and in galleries and museums. filmography
