E.J. Thribb

E.J. Thribb has been a fictional poet in the British satirical magazine Private Eye since 1972, which has a regular heading. The poet is usually 17½ years old.

E.J. Thribb is the pseudonym of Barry Fantoni; In each edition of the magazine, he delivers an occasion poem for the memorandum, which usually refers to recently-known famous people. Each poem begins with the verse: So, farewell then...

In the course of the poem, the catchphrase of the heengegane is usually followed, followed by the winged words: Yes. That was your catchphrase.

Another key motive is Thribb's friend Keith, who in some way shows the regrettable similarities. In earlier years, Keith's mother also featured prominently in the poems, but this has become scarcer, with the result that worried readers wonder if they sometimes succumb to her health.

Thribb always signs his poems with his age; sometimes, however, if the dead person could be associated with a certain number.

The E.J. lyrics Thribb works with stream of consciousness and has little to no prosody, rhyme, metrum, poetic power or logic.
