Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba (Okanghudi, August 18, 1935) was the second president of the independent republic of Namibia. At the elections of 15 and 16 November 2004 he became convincing as a winner of the bus. He was sworn on March 21, 2005 as a sequel to Sam Nujoma. On March 21, 2015, he was succeeded by Hage Geingob as president.

Pohamba is one of the founders of the SWAPO party. Due to his political activities in Namibia, he was sought by the South African police. He fled to Rhodesia but was handed over to the authorities in Windhoek. He spent four months in prison and had two years of house arrest in Owamboland, north of Namibia.

Then Pohamba set up a SWAPO office in Luanda in Angola. Until Namibia's independence in 1990, Pohamba represented SWAPO in Africa. He studied short politicology in the former Soviet Union. In the free elections of 1990, Pohamba was elected in parliament.

Pohamba has been minister in various departments: domestic affairs, fisheries, and country.

Since 2002, Pohamba was SWAPO's vice president, in November 2007 he was elected as party president. In April 2015 he resigned as party president.

Following the election of his successor, Pohamba was distinguished by an African jury under the leadership of Salem Ahmed Salem with the Mo Ibrahim award for good governance. This US $ 5 million prize is reserved for African leaders who voluntarily abandon power.
