Ixion (France)

The Ixion cubes looked like this, but this is a 1902 copy produced by the German brand Komet.

Ixion is a historic brand of auxiliary engines.

This French brand produced around 1900 light one-cylinder, two-stroke airbags, developed by Leon Cordonnier from Lille. There would have been versions of 1, 3 and 4 hp. At that time, the use of two-stroke engines had not been swung: usually, such auxiliary vehicles were performed as four-stroke with a snap-in valve. The Ixion engines could be mounted for steering a bicycle and then drive the front wheel with a rubber disk. By means of a lever system, the front wheel can be lifted, causing the drive to slip away.

These French Ixion engines were licensed by Komet in Dresden.

For other brands with this name see Ixion (Birmingham) and Ixion (London).
