Kino (movement)

Kino is a German word, formerly used as a synonym for the word Kino (Cinema) or Kinofilm (film). In Germany it is still used to refer to the early creation of film material. Internationally it is used as a synonym of the Kino movement that has groups around the world. The Kino movement

Kino is an international movement of passionate filmmakers who combine their skills, talent and enthusiasm to make short films. Born in 1999 in Montreal, Canada, Kino is now present in more than 60 cities around the world. Moved by the spirit of stimulating creativity, sharing experiences and the lack of competition between artists, the Kino network is an experimental laboratory and launching platform for those who refuse to take the only path to traditional production. Inspired by Kiné, Greek root meaning "movement", KINO generates free and independent production. In addition, some groups are dedicated to the creation of film material of social criticism as is the case of the Madrid Kintopp collective. They are open collectives that create non-profit videos, but for social and political purposes through non-professional methods.

In Central America, the movement takes place ten years after its inception by a group of Central American film students in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Product of the lack of interest of the institutions to provide them with equipment for their productions. Today Kino has attracted the attention of many international artists for their level of productivity and method of networking. A niche was created where independent artists such as musicians and filmmakers can develop their projects, and also generate reel to develop in the professional field.
