Memorial of Neckarzimmern

The Challenge Cup is a competition between European handball clubs organized by the EHF (European Handball Federation) held annually since 2000, involving teams from the leagues with the lowest potential in the continent. The clubs of the Spanish and German leagues decided not to take part in this championship by reporting major economic losses to the profits that were reversed in their coffers.

Even so, a Spanish team from Gran Canaria has been proclaimed champion in 2016. It is the Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE, which rose to the Olympus of the chosen ones crowned as the best team in Europe and won the EHF Challenge against Kastamonu Turkish (33-29).

The Challenge Cup replaced the City Cup from the 2000-01 season, in which Spanish and German teams had participated.
