Metamorphosis (Old Greek μεταμόρφωσις) literally means change of shape. In mythology metamorphoses occur a lot. In the classical literature, there are therefore several works under the title Metamorphoses (see Metamorphoses (Roman literature)).
The Roman writer Ovidius has written a whole book about transitions, called Metamorphoses. In this he describes how the youngster Narcissus changes into a daffodil flower.
In the ancient Greeks, the god Zeus often changed his form, so tempted Europe when he disguised himself as a bull. The sorcerer Church changed the men of Odysseus in pigs according to the Odyssey of Homeros.
In fairy tales and other stories, a witch or wizard sometimes uses a magic wand or spell to cause a metamorphosis. There are also other ways. In the frog king, a frog changes through a kiss in a prince.
