Narciso Bayón


Narciso González Bayón (Mechita, 1911 - 1978) was an Argentine illustrator and caricaturist. Professional work

He entered the National Academy of Fine Arts, under the direction of Pío Collivadino, at the age of 18, and at the age of 20, at the Columbus Theater stage, where he worked for several years with Rodolfo Franco and Héctor Basaldúa. He excelled as a landscaper.

In 1944 he began to collaborate with the humorous magazines Sintonía y Caras y Caretas and in the newspaper El Mundo, revealing his skills as a subtle caricaturist. He published in the magazine PBT the personage Allegretto (a type that encourages). He signed some of his drawings of modern humor with the pseudonym of Titus.

He was head of art for two major advertising agencies.

From 1947, he made a large number of posters for the national cinema, becoming one of the best paid illustrators in this area.

In 1960 he settled in the United States, serving as artistic director of the publisher Joshua B. Power. Back in Argentina, in 1972, he continued to collaborate with the North American publisher, making covers of the books published in New York under the Editors Press label. In his later years he devoted himself more and more to the painting of Pampas subjects and joined the IDA (Art Institute), giving courses in illustration and painting.
