Nuevo Laredo was founded on May 15, 1848 following the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that put an end to the US-Mexico War. Laredo, Texas, was founded 93 years earlier, in 1755 by Spaniard Tomás Sánchez north of the Rio Grande. An agreement between Mr. José de Escandón and the King of Spain provided for the two cities to be reunited for 100 years. This agreement ended in 1847 when the Guadeloupe Hidalgo treaty separated the city in two. Only 17 families decided to keep Mexican nationality and stayed south of the river to found Nuevo Laredo.

Nuevo Laredo is now the largest frontier city in North America. Its geographical position has grown by specializing in international trade. The city has also developed a lot thanks to logistics and the transport industry and a variety of hotel chains, restaurants and cultural centers. It is also in Nuevo Laredo that the Tamaulipas International Festival takes place. The city today has a population of 348,387 inhabitants. To change the code
