Tim O'Reilly

Tim O'Reilly, Irish: Tadhg Ó Raghallaigh (Cork (Ireland), June 6, 1954) is the founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media (formerly O'Reilly & Associates) and a lover of free software and open resource movements. The designation of the term "Web 2.0" is generally attributed to him.

O'Reilly was initially until he obtained his high school diploma, interested in literature. However, after he had a B.A. cum laude graduated from the Harvard College classics, he got lost in the world of computer books. He does not describe his company as a book or online publisher, or as a producer of conferences (even though the company does all three), but as a technology transfer company, "changing the world by spreading the knowledge of innovators" (changing the world using the knowledge of innovators). O'Reilly is in the management of CollabNet and was in the management of Macromedia, to merge with Adobe in 2005. In March 2007, he became a member of the management of MySQL AB.

In 2001, O'Reilly was involved in a conflict with Amazon.com when he protested against Amazon's one-click patent and specifically against Amazon's use of that patent against competitor barnesandnoble.com. The protest ended with a visit by O'Reilly and Jeff Bezos from Amazon to Washington D.C., to lobby for patent reforms. Externe link
