Bertha van Hasselt (1901-2009)

Bertha Laurentia Maria Coleta of Hasselt (Roosendaal, November 24, 1901 - Breda, October 16, 2009) was the oldest living resident of the Netherlands since 13 October 2009, after the death of Grietje Jansen-Anker. She has carried this title for three days.

A sister from Van Hasselt also reached a high age: she died at almost 109 years of age, but in Kalmthout, because she lived in Flanders. Both of them died before 70 years of age.

Van Hasselt was the first oldest Dutchman born in the twentieth century.

Bertha van Hasselt died at the age of 107 years and 326 days after her health had deteriorated dramatically in recent months. Since 19 July 1971, when Elisabeth Weddige-Tedsen died at the age of 107 years and 151 days, it was no longer the case that the oldest resident of the Netherlands died at an age of less than 108 years. The successor to Van Hasselt as the oldest resident of the Netherlands was Wijtske van Dijk-Meindersma.
