Employed Community Pharmacists in Europe

The association of pharmacists employed in Europe (Employed Community Pharmacists in Europe - EphEU) is the central federation of European trade unions and associations representing pharmacists who do not own public pharmacies. The main objective of this association is to improve the professional conditions of pharmacists throughout Europe by collaborating in the legislation processes. In addition, the central federation supports pharmacists seeking work in one of the member countries. In this case it is necessary to take into consideration the different regulations of the legislators of the corresponding country.

On April 5, 2013, the second general assembly took place in Paris in which the Pharmacists' Defense Association (PDA) of Great Britain was accepted as a new member. Delegates from all member organizations spoke about the European Union's planned guidelines concerning working hours (emergency services, maximum working hours), qualification by profession, activities in other European countries as well as the measures against the falsification of medicines. In unison, the delegations were of the opinion that it is essential that pharmacists employed in public pharmacies in foreign countries know the national language. In the same way, all the delegates unanimously rejected the individual Opt-out of the maximum limit of the working hours foreseen in the employment contract.
