Floreal

Floreal (in French Floréal) is the name of the eighth month of the French republican calendar, the second of the spring season, which runs from April 20 or 21 until May 20 or 21, depending on the year. It coincides roughly with the apparent passage of the Sun by the zodiacal constellation of Taurus. Etymology

The name of the month is derived from the Latin flos, which means flower. According to the report to the Convention elaborated by Fabre d'Églantine, this name refers to "the opening of the flowers of April in May". The suffix -al denotes that the month belongs to the spring season, just like Germinal and Pradial.
