Gnomic form

With the gnomic word of verbs, the fact is that a particular verb form is a fact that is generally true and no specific situation to which it is written. In Dutch and many other languages, the subject is often not a member, as in the sense Ministers rule the country ( generalized wisdom).

Most languages do not know separate wisdom and / or tempus to display the gnome character of the act or condition mentioned. However, there are languages that contain a separate form such as Swahili and Ancient Greek. Gnomicity can be expressed in ancient times both in the past, present and future. For the past there is a separate form, the aorist, which refers to an unspecified time. This so-called gnome aorist is mostly used in maximes. Its origin is probably in the ancient Greek fables.
