Lanassa

Lanassa was the daughter of Agatocles, tyrant of Syracuse (Sicily) who lived around the 3rd century BC. C. He married Pirro, king of Epirus, who was given as a dowry the important island of Corcira, present Corfu, recently conquered by Agatocles.

He had two children: Alejandro, the successor of Pirro. Outraged at being rejected by her husband, after his marriage with two other women of barbaric origin, he fled to Corcira. From there he sent a message to Demetrius I of Macedonia, with whom Pirro was at war, to offer him both his hand and the island of Corcyra. Demetrio accepted his offer and, after sailing to the island, he married her, left a garrison on the island and returned to Macedonia.

These events happened shortly before the end of the war and fall of Demetrius, probably in 288 a. C.
