Presidential Standard of Ireland

Presidential standard of the Republic of Ireland.

The Presidential Standard of Ireland is the personal flag used by the President of the Republic of Ireland to indicate his presence. It was adopted on February 13, 1945.

This standard is a heraldic flag formed by the colors of the coat of arms of the Irish Republic: A field of azure with a golden harp with silver strings. This harp, called Harp Gaelic (in Gaelic: Clàrsach) is the traditional Irish heraldic emblem. The dark blue of the cloth is considered the color of Saint Patrick, patron of Ireland.

The banner is hoisted in Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President of the Irish Republic in Dublin. It is also hoisted in the Castle of Dublin when the head of the State of Ireland is encuetra in him and in the vehicles in which he moves.

As with other presidential and royal standards, it is never hoisted at half mast. The Irish presidential banner has no priority over the national flag, unlike what happens with the royal standard and the national flag in the United Kingdom.
