Ascálafo (son of Ares)

For other uses of this term, see Ascálafo. In Greek mythology, Ascálafo was a son of the god Ares and of Astíoque (or of Lico and Pernis, according to the Fables of Higino).

With his twin Yalmeno, Ascálafo participated in the expedition of the Argonauts. She was one of Helena's suitors and, like the rest, swore to help her husband choose her if he needed it. Therefore, when Helen was kidnapped by Paris, Ascálafo commanded with thirty ships the army of Orcómeno in the war against Troy.

The death of Ascálafo at the hands of Deiphobus provoked the indignation of Ares, who tried angrily to participate more actively in the war.

Another tradition claims that Ascálafo survived the Trojan War and traveled to Samarea, where he was buried by his father.
