Kaya-no-hime

Kaya-no-hime or Kayanuhime (鹿 屋 野 比 神, in the Kojiki; 草 祖 草野 姫, in Nihonshoki, Kaya-no-hime or Kayanuhime) is a deity that appears in Japanese mythology. It is the deity of plants and prairies and is also known in the Kojiki as Nozuchi-no-kami (野 椎 神, Nozuchi-no-kami).

Born of Izanagi and Izanami during the creation of the gods. He married the god of the mountains, Ōyamatsumi and had eight children grouped into four couples. Its name "Kaya" gives name to the shrub of the same name.

In the Tarumaeyama Shrine (Tomakoma, Hokkaido prefecture) tribute is paid along with Ōyamatsumi and Kukunochi, tree god. Tribute is also paid to the Kayatsu Sanctuary (Jimokuji, Ama district, Aichi prefecture), being the only one in Japan to be offered with tsukemono (pickled vegetables).
