Euro Banking Association


Euro Banking Association (in Spanish: Asociación Bancaria Europea) is an industry forum founded in 1985 for the European payment industry with nearly 200 banks and member organizations of the European Union and around the world with the objective of promote and promote pan-European payment initiatives. History

The European Banking Association was founded in Paris in 1985 by 18 commercial banks and the European Investment Bank. Both the European Commission and the Bank for International Settlements supported the founding of the EBA. Since then, the number of members has increased to almost 200. The institutions come from all the member states of the European Union, as well as from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, China, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

In its early years, the EBA agenda included the promotion of the European Monetary Union and the development and management of a compensation system for the private industry ECU that extended throughout Europe.

For the start of EMU, the EBA delivered EURO1, a payment system equivalent to a high value for single transactions. The EBA also developed a payment service for one euro payments of high priority and urgency for small and medium banks, and a payment system.

As the largest network of payment professionals with a pan-European mindset and vision, the EBA provides a neutral forum for the country to discuss and drive payment initiatives. The association is based in Paris.
