Fluorescenties

Fluorescences for orchestra (Fluorescences for Orchestra) is a composition of the Pool Krzysztof Penderecki. It was written in the period when Penderecki was experimenting with new sounds.

Fluorescences match the previous Polymorphia. He tried out new (combinations of) sound techniques at a string orchestra. This he continues to a large symphony orchestra. He did not look at a musician more or less. The orchestra consists of a large string section; The wind instruments are all 4x occupied and there is a huge battery of percussion instruments (32 pieces for 6 men / women) behind the orchestra. This enormous occupation was not enough for the composer; All kinds of occasional instruments kept their wait like a typewriter, koebel, guiros, glass, gong. For the rest, the composition is very similar to Polymorphia. However, by applying a larger orchestra, the dynamics are many times greater. In addition to the breakdown of the percussion group, the most striking of this work is the closing. After a crescendo in all parties, accompanied by a siren, the music dies in the shortest time to only one extreme pianissimo playing iron.

The premiere took place during the Music Days of Donaueschingen (a festival of modern music) in 1962, for which it was also composed. Some listeners were liberating the work, others were just clumsy and even cruel. Source and discography
