International sanctions are decisions taken by states and organizations like the US, France, the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) against other states for essentially political reasons, unilaterally or multilaterally. They are of a diplomatic nature (closing of embassies for example), economic (limitation of exchanges of all kinds) or military (interventions). We must distinguish between economic sanctions and trade sanctions, the latter being applied for purely market-related reasons (tariffs, customs, etc.). code
