Pieter Maria Frans van Meeuwen


Pieter Maria Frans Jhr. van Meeuwen ('s-Hertogenbosch, 1837 - there, 1913) was a Dutch lawyer and president of the court in his hometown.

Van Meeuwen, member of the Van Meeuwen family, was a son of the Bossche lawyer Eduardus Johannes Petrus van Meeuwen, who became governor of the province of Limburg in 1846, and by Cornelia Theresia Hanssen. Van Meeuwen studied law in Leiden and became a lawyer in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1859. In 1866 he married Elisabeth Julienne Magnée (1843-1900), with whom he received four children. She was a daughter of the mayor L.H.A. Magnée of the Limburg municipality of Horn, the owner of Vliek castle. After his death, the castle became owned by Van Meeuwen. He was appointed in 1871 as Attorney General at the Court of Justice. In 1889 he became Vice-President of the Court, and after the death of T.H. Bondam in 1900 he succeeded him as president. Van Meeuwen was chairman of the Provincial Society of Arts and Sciences and president of the Societal Casino.
