Reekse Heide

The Reekse Heide of Reeksche Heide is a 465 ha nature reserve located between Schaijk, Reek, Velp and Langenboom. It is owned by the municipality of Landerd and used by the Dutch Ministry of Defense. Next to the east lies the Reekse Bergen.

It was already used in 1850 as a military training ground and shooting area for the garnison located in Grave. The pollination ducts were used as bullet collectors. Also currently the area is used as such. A large part of the site is therefore fenced. The part that is not fenced is accessible with the restriction that it is a military training site. A number of building complexes and associated infrastructure are built on the enclosed area.

The Reekse Mountains are freely accessible and no military terrain. The Reekse heide consists mainly of former pollen areas, mostly planted with coniferous wood and a few more peatlands. The planting dates from the beginning of the 20th century.

Watercourses directly east of the Reekse Bergen are: The Halse Brook and the High Window, which discharge ferrous sea water from the Peelhorst to the Graafse Window.

To the east, the area crosses the Langenboom area and to the west in the Mineursberg, the Gaalse Heide and the Maashorst Nature Park.
