The Great Hermine

The Grande Hermine was a three-masted round caravel built in France to carry out missions of exploration of the newly discovered America. The road opened by Columbus and the discoveries and colonizations made by Spaniards and Portuguese encouraged the other European powers to explore the American coasts. France began its voyages to America at the hands of Jacques Cartier. Jacques Cartier, captain of La Grande Hermine, on his trip to Canada.

In 1534, with La Grande Hermine as badge and 10 other ships, he made the first trip to Canada, where he climbed the mouth of the San Lorenzo River and named the area New France. Years later, with the three caravels La Grande Hermine, La Petite Hermine and Ermillon, he made the second trip, where he sailed along the San Lorenzo River in order to found the first French settlement in the New World. / p>
